The Preservation Society of Union City Indiana - Ohio wants the citizens of Union City to come together in support of one of our finest traditions. The heritage of our basketball teams from Mississinawa Valley and Union City Community have provided entertainment to literally thousands of Union City fans. We want to keep the tradition alive! Come join members of the girls and boys teams and relive the fun of opening the season.
On Friday evening at the Community Room, November 11, 2011 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., members of the teams and The Preservation Society will be hosting their very first season opener with a soup supper followed by a viewing of Hoosiers, voted one of the top ten of all-time-great sports’ movies ever produced. During the meal, there will be clips that show how the movie was produced and view scenes that involved Union City’s students!
Athletic Boosters from both schools will raffle off autographed items to support their teams. The cost of the meal is $10.00 for the first 100 tickets sold that will entitle each ticket holder to a handmade bowl produced by art students. All general tickets will be sold following the sale of the first 100. The next set of tickets will be available for $5.00 for adults and children. Tickets are available at the Union City Antique Mall, 201 N. Columbia St., Union City, Indiana, phone number 765 964 3203, and all proceeds will be equally divided among the teams, The Preservation Society, and art students.
We also encourage everyone who attends to come with their memories and memorabilia including photos, old uniforms, trophies, stories, and just about anything to share with one another. Following the dinner there will be a free showing of the movie Hoosiers hosted by Rick Clear.
We want this to be a big event that supports basketball in all of Union City! Why not plan a fun evening with your kids, grand-kids, friends and classmates. Do your part in helping the teams by making this our greatest basketball season ever! Get decked out in your best school colors and then all you have to do is bring your spirit and join the fun! We hope to see you there Friday, November 11th!!
